The Weekend Culture Edit

Saw two of my favourite artists today- Anita Klein and Alighero Boetti. Anita Klein's new linocuts are on show at the Menier gallery.

'Poppies' by Anita Klein

Anita spoke of the inspiration behind her work and how she strives to achieve a sense of harmony in her compositions, something akin to placing the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle together till they all fit and feel right, she said.

The audience was entranced. Me included. :)
I bought the catalogue, which Anita very kindly signed for me. I can't tell you how thrilled I am!

Then we strolled over the Tate Modern and saw Alighiero Boetti: Game Plan

The embroidered maps are phenomenal!

The sheer scale of the work is awe-inspiring. This piece covers the whole wall and is intricately embroidered in tiny stitches. I wish I had better pictures.

These maps were embroidered at Boetti's commission by Afghani embroiderers and have text in Italian, English and Arabic.

These mathematical, grid inspired rugs were so beautiful.

And finally finished the day with coffee and cake and the best view in town.
